Omaha Children’s Museum (OCM) has been a member of the Association of Science and Technology Centers (ASTC) for many years. OCM has appeared on the ASTC Passport Program, a reciprocal network of museums, a benefit OCM members and out-of-town guests enjoy.
Over the past few years, OCM has seen a marked increase in ASTC Passport Program redemptions, which, on a spreadsheet, looks like a significant amount of lost revenue. It was through that lens that the decision was made to allow our ASTC affiliation to lapse.
That spreadsheet failed to convey the ancillary benefits that the ASTC Passport Program provides. Benefits like seeing the wonderment and joy in a child’s eyes as their curiosity about their world is ignited and a zeal to learn is born. And the benefit to our beloved members when they travel out of town and are able to access fun new learning opportunities at other museums.
Omaha Children’s Museum is actively working to rejoin the ASTC Passport Program. We are optimistic that we will soon be able to list our participation as a member benefit again.
