Charlie Campbell Science and Technology Center

Science comes to life in the Charlie Campbell Science & Technology Center.

The Super Gravitron is a huge ball machine that teaches basic scientific principles through play. Balls travel throughclusters focusing on hydraulics (water), pneumatics (air) and mechanics (machines). Each of these clusters has an interactive feature element including a Water Tower, Air Chamber shaped like a giant flask, and a Kid-Powered Crane.

Science Showplace is a presentation area where your family can ejnoy live science presentations including Whiz Bang Super Science and The Amazing Bubble Show.

The Inventor’s Workshop, inspired by Leonardo da Vinci and his sketchbooks, features large interactive elements including a Rack and Pinion, Worm Screw and Compound Hoist that kids can maneuver to learn about simple machines. In the workshop, a building activity area called “Dream It. Build It” is where kids can build with rectangular, KAPLA building blocks that allow for free-form construction. A Magnetic Gear Interactive offers the chance to experiment with gears and plates.

Recollections is where kids can pose, dance and play along to music in front of a reflection wall. Their image, surrounded by colorful patterns, is projected onto a screen in high definition.

Other elements include an Energy Exchange, where kids use wheel cranks to make balls and gyros travel on rails in and out of the science center at its entrance, and Moveable Interactives that teach children about subjects such as the creation of Iowa’s Loess Hills and the layers of sediment in the Missouri River.
