Species: Discovery
Ports: A Titanic Program
Date Found: Starting October 1, 2004
Description: Students will experience the
drama of surviving the Titanic. An half-hour original play
about those who made it off the ship will be followed by over
two hours of hands-on learning with the Discovery Ports. Developed
for K – grade 8 students, these six interactive exhibits
explain mass, volume and density; ocean navigation; recovery,
conservation and restoration; the telegraph; the class structure
of passengers; and the ship’s construction.
Length: 3 hours (45-minute play; 2 hours
of Discovery Port presentations)

Species: The Amazing
Bubble Show
Description: See our most popular science
show at Omaha Children’s Museum! Experience bubbles
that float up, bubbles that burn and even bubbles big enough
to stand in. Museum educators will discuss the principles
of bubbles and will even share the OCM bubble recipe with
everyone. This presentation is great for the whole school.
Length: 30 minutes
Cost: $175.00 for outreach; $0.50/child during

Species: Extraordinary
Electricity
Description: Join our “mad” scientist
and investigate the properties of electricity. This fun-filled
show includes the Van de Graaff Generator that makes hair
stand on end, lightening bolts and our impersonation of the
Statue of Liberty. This show is sure to charge up all those
budding scientists.
Length: 30 minutes
Cost: $175.00 for outreach; $0.50/child during
museum visit
Notes: Outreach performances require electrical
hook-up and dimmed lights for parts of show
Species: Matter Madness
Description: Investigate the three common
states of matter – and the mysterious fourth state –
with this lab show. Marvel as we turn a flower into glass,
a marshmallow into a rock and human breath into a liquid.

Species: Happy Health
with Stuffee
Description: Join our bigger-than-life,
blue-haired friend Stuffee and learn about your body from
the inside out. Unzip Stuffee and pull out his insides. Learn
about the large and small intestine, lungs, kidneys, stomach
and heart.

Cost: $150.00 outreach; $0.50/child during

Species: The Village
Storyteller’s Story Time
Description: Gather ‘round Village
Story Teller tells of “Goldilocks and the Three Bears”
and/or “The Three Little Pigs”—with a new
twist. Great for reading programs, this show is packed with
audience participation. You bring the students. We bring the
fun (and props!).
Length: 30 minutes
Cost: $60.00 outreach; $0.50/child during
museum visit
Species: STARLAB:
The Portable Planetarium
Description: Study the night sky—indoors.
Rent STARLAB, a portable planetarium. STARLAB sets up in minutes
and comes complete with curriculum for grades K thru 8. Teachers
using STARLAB must attend a training session at Omaha Children’s
Museum, where they may choose curricula and sign up for rental
dates. Cylinders available are: Constellations, Solar System
and Galaxy, Native American Mythology, Lewis & Clark,
Star Field, and Biological Cell.

Length: Rent for a day or a week (9 a.m.
Monday-5 p.m. Friday)
Cost: $60.00/day; $250.00/week
Notes: Teachers renting STARLAB must attend
a training session at OCM before use.
Scheduling
To schedule your visit, call 402-342-6164 ext. 416. Scheduling
must take place two weeks prior to your visit. Payment is
required day of the field trip. Please make all checks payable
to Omaha Children's Museum.
Confirmation
A confirmation will be sent to you within ten days of your
call. Check the confirmation for accuracy, sign one copy and
return it with a check/money order for the deposit to the
Omaha Children's Museum. Please bring the other copy of your
confirmation with you on the day of your visit.
Fees
General Field Trips:
$4.00 per elementary school-aged child
$3.00 per each pre-school aged- child

Chaperones
Free
(If there are more adults than the one adult
per six school-aged or fourpreschool-aged children, the extra
adults are charged the group rate.)
General Field Trips allow groups to discover the museum on
their own. We ask that chaperones guide each group to a designated
area and facilitate the play.
Cancellation Policy
Groups booking fieldtrips will need to contact the museum
at least two weeks in advance to cancel their trip. Canceled
trips without two weeks notice will be charged a $25.00 cancellation
fee. Groups who do not pay their cancellation fee may not
book again until this fee is paid.
Eating Accomodations
The museum does not provide a food program, however, we have
a small indoor eating area with four tables and a large outdoor
picnic area. Food or drinks are not allowed in the exhibit
area of the museum.
Organize Your Groups
- Please be prepared to divide your group into different
program times if seating capacity is exceeded. In order
to provide the highest quality program for your students,
we will not allow more than the maximum number stated in
the program.
- Plan one adult per six school-aged children and one adult
per four preschool-aged children. This is a requirement.
Failure to meet this requirement will result in groups being
charged regular admission, including all adults.
- Adult chaperones are responsible for the behavior and
management of their group during the entire visit. Please
make sure that children are respectful to all other museum
guests.
- Provide nametags with school/group name for all children,
teachers and chaperones.
- Parking is free. Buses are asked to park in the upper
level parking lot in the spaces provided for buses.

Tuesday - Saturday: 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Thursday: 10:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.
Sunday: 1 p.m. – 5 p.m.
Monday and major holidays*: Closed
*Open Monday on some school holidays
Planning Tips
- Schedule early—programs fill up quickly.
- A minimum of two weeks notice is required for all program
reservations.
- Avoid big crowds by scheduling your visit for early in
the week or between September and March.
- Schedule your visit even if you just plan to explore the
museum on your own.
