Field Trips
Omaha Children's Museum is a hands-on museum with exhibits and activities in science, culture and the arts that keep kids of all ages playing (and learning) with their classmates. Museum field trips last 90 minutes and include a group orientation.

Museum Exploration

Grades: pre-K – 6
Cost: $3.00 per student (as of 8/1/06)

Students of all ages can explore the museum with their teachers and chaperones. This field trip is great for children in Day Care, Preschool, Kindergarten or Elementary School. Take advantage of the entire museum to help enhance your curriculum.

Backpack Adventure

Grades: 2 – 6
Cost: $3.50 per student (as of 8/1/06)

On a Backpack Adventure Field Trip, your class explores the museum with a backpack full of activities, crafts and experiments to help enhance your experience. Packed with equipment for any trip around the museum, these kits provide a fun, easy way to learn. Each Backpack Adventure is created with different grade levels in mind.

All of the programs meet both Nebraska State Standards and National Standards.

Guided Field Trips
Guided field trips allow older students to learn at the museum through facilitated activities with a museum educator.

Science in Action
Sept. 11, 2006 – May 31, 2007

Grades: 1 – 6
Cost: $4.50 per student (as of 8/1/06)

Time: 2 hours

Students will explore the museum and conduct a facilitated science experiment in our brand-new Science Lab. Experiments encompass physical, chemical, biological and earth science standards with topics including air pressure, simple machines, magnetism and acids & bases. Topics can also be tailored to your classroom curriculum.

Frontier presents
“Can You Tell Me How to Get to Sesame Street?”

Now through March 4, 2007

Grades: pre-K – 5
Cost: $4.50 per student (as of 8/1/06)

Walk down one of the most famous streets in the world in a re-creation of the set from Sesame Street. Whether it's spelling with Big Bird, counting with Grover or searching all around the world for Ernie and his rubber-duckie, children will learn about the TV show along with their numbers and letters as adults linger on memory lane. This field trip includes at least one hour in the exhibit and a facilitated group activity.

The Amazing Bubble Show*

Grades: pre-K – 6
Time: 45 minutes
Cost: $125.00 (as of 8/1/06)

At the museum's most popular and longest-running science show, you experience bubbles that float, bubbles that burst into flame and even bubbles that you can stand in! OCM's own "Dr. Bubbles" teaches your group the science behind bubbles and even provides his top-secret bubble juice recipe!

Storytime Theater

Grades: pre-K – 6
Time: 40 minutes
Cost: $60.00 (as of 8/1/06)

Gather 'round as the Museum Storyteller puts a new twist on some of your favorite stories. Through dramatic storytelling and audience participation, fables, legends and classic fairy tales come to life before your very eyes.

The Whiz-Bang Super Science Show*

Grades: 1 – 8
Time: 45 minutes
Cost: $125.00 (as of 8/1/06)

Let us edu-tain you! Whether it's H20 rockets blasting through the skies, electrical sparks from our Van De Graaff Generator, or a 2-liter bottle of soda erupting ten feet into the air, the Whiz-Bang Super Science Show is sure to make science cool as students explore air pressure, electricity, water pressure, chemistry and more!

Classroom Enrichment Programs
Energize your curriculum by bringing an OCM Educator to your classroom. Enrichment programs provide a unique way for students to learn about the world. Each program includes a study guide with post-visit activities and information to help you extend the lessons.


GROSSOLOGY in the Classroom

Time: 50 minutes

Boogers, Zits, Poop and Barf may be the topics, but it's biology that students learn while cooking up some of the nastiest treats imaginable. Inspired by the popular traveling exhibit and book series Grossology: The Impolite Science of the Human Body, this irreverent Enrichment Program brings the science of gross, nasty stuff to life as students learn why our bodies do some of the disgusting things they do. We bring the Queasy-Bake oven, you bring the appetites!

Then and Now: Storytelling

Grades: 4 – 8
Cost: $150 (as of 8/1/06) (Educator Members get a 10% discount)
DISCOUNTS DO NOT COMBINE
Time: 50 minutes a day, for 3 days

The ancient art of storytelling is brought to life through games, group stories, journaling and more, as students learn how to create gripping stories from their own lives.
Day one: group stories, tall tales and legends.
Day two: journaling and family history.
Day three: students turn their own ideas into a finished story.
Students will be given homework as part of this Enrichment Program.

Rocks ROCK: Earth Science in the Classroom*

Grades: K – 8
Cost: $75 (as of 8/1/06)

Time: 90 minutes

Students uncover the visible and hidden geology of the world around them. Various activities show how different rock types are formed and provide a glimpse of other geologic processes. Modules are tailored based on grade level needs.

Scheduling
To schedule your visit, call (402) 342-6164 ext. 424. Scheduling must take place two weeks prior to your visit. Payment is required on the day of the field trip unless other arrangements have been made. Please make all checks payable to Omaha Children's Museum.

Confirmation
A confirmation will be sent within ten days of your call. Please check the confirmation for accuracy.

Cancellation Policy
You will need to contact the museum at least two weeks in advance to cancel your trip. Cancelled trips without two weeks notice will be charged a $25.00 cancellation fee. Groups who do not pay their cancellation fee may not book again until this fee is paid.

Mileage Charges
Outreach and Classroom Enrichment Programs reserved at schools located either outside of Omaha city limits or further than 25 miles from Omaha Children's Museum will include a $0.50 per mile surcharge.

Chaperones
OCM requires adult chaperones with all student field trips. For school-aged children, each group gets one [1] free adult chaperone for every six [6] students. For preschool-aged children, groups get one [1] free adult chaperone for every [4] students. Any additional chaperones are charged the group admission prices.

Planning Tips

  • Schedule early—museum activities fill up quickly.
  • A minimum of two weeks notice is required for all reservations.
  • Provide name tags with school/group name for all children, teachers and chaperones.

Eating Accommodations
The museum does not have food services. An activity room can be rented for $25.00 per group. This must be arranged when booking a field trip. Food or drinks are not allowed in the exhibit area of the museum.

and Thursday until 8:00 p.m.
