Play & Development

Playtime is incredibly valuable time. Children learn through play by imitating adult behaviors, stretching their imagination and building creativity. When parents play with their children they make them feel important and valued. Playtime gives parents and children a great opportunity to build a lifelong bond.

Playtime tips:

Let Your Child Take the Lead
As you play with your child let them guide you to an activity that they are interested in. When a child decides what to play it will keep their attention longer. It is easy for adults to become bored with the same activity, but repetition is key to a child’s learning especially in early childhood.

Focus on Your Child
Give your child your complete attention to help them realize how important they are to you. Use your own imagination – your child will delight in it!

Relax and Unwind
Make playtime an opportunity to forget about life’s daily stresses and focus on your child. Omaha Children’s Museum provides a unique opportunity to forget about work and household chores and become immersed in playing with your child. Through play, you can better understand your child’s desires and abilities.
