Omaha Children's Museum welcomes service organizations, student groups, retired educators, students involved in a class project, civic minded individuals and those interested in giving of their time to make a difference in the life of a young child.
Volunteer opportunities are available during weekdays, weekends and occasional evenings. Scheduling is flexible.
Administrative Volunteer
Administrative Volunteers assist staff with work behind the scenes of the Museum. Opportunities may be available assisting the development, education, exhibitions, marketing, or operations departments. Tasks may include working on mailings, making copies, faxing, filing and typing.
Requirements: Good communication skills and attention to detail. Ability to work with limited supervision.
Commitment: 2 – 4 hours/week
Days Needed: Monday – Friday
Discovery Guide
A Discovery Guide works directly with Museum patrons in creating a fun, interactive learning environment. Guides interact with visitors, provide material for educational programming and assist in maintaining a clean and safe museum environment.
Requirements: An upbeat, positive personality who enjoys working with children of all ages. Ability to work as part of a team and to be flexible to assist wherever needed.
Commitment: 4 hours/week preferred
Days Needed: Tuesday – Sunday, occasional Monday
Guest Services Volunteer
A Guest Services Volunteer greets visitors to the museum making them feel welcome to the Omaha Children’s Museum. They may assist in the processing of admission sales; checking in members; promoting the purchase of museum memberships, answering questions, directing traffic, and assisting in the gift shop.
Requirements: An outgoing and friendly personality is a must.
Commitment: 2 – 4 hours/week
Days Needed: Tuesday – Sunday, occasional Monday
Short-Term Projects
Individuals seeking less than 20 hours of volunteer service, please contact Jan McKenzie at 402-342-6164 x418 to discuss special volunteer opportunities. Short-term projects are subject to availability.
Special Event Volunteer
A Special Event Volunteer comes to the museum for special events to assist staff and other volunteers with programming. This may involve setting up for activities; greeting visitors; distributing information to guests; working with staff during programming; and cleaning up after the event.
Requirements: A friendly outgoing personality, experience working with children and families, ability to work as part of a team and ability to be flexible. A background in arts and crafts is great but necessary.
Commitment: 2-4 hours per event
Days Needed: Dependent upon special event programming
