Omaha Children’s Museum encourages a hands-on experience with exhibits and activities in science, culture and the arts. Kids of all ages are engaged while learning and playing with their classmates. Whether your group wants to simply explore the museum together, or take part in facilitated activities, the museum offers a field trip to meet your needs.
Dinosaur Adventure
Grades: Pre-K (5 years)-Kindergarten

Take a walk through Dinosaur Park to visit with each one of our robotic dinosaurs. Kids will learn fun facts and work on a dinosaur take home project.
Students will be divided into three groups with 30 minutes in the exhibit, 30 minutes of hands-on activities and 30 minutes of museum exploration. Groups will rotate through all three activities. The additional 30 minutes will accommodate orientation and rotation time.

Journey back in time as you take an expedition through the land of dinosaurs. Our expert paleo-guide will introduce kids to our dinosaur species and then they will spend time in our lab training to become paleontologists. They will help excavate a baby Tyrannosaurus rex. A pre- and post-enrichment Teacher’s Guide is available on our web site at www.ocm.org.

The Schoolchildren’s Blizzard

On January 12, 1888, a catastrophic blizzard caught the people of the Midwest by surprise. The Schoolchildren’s Blizzard exhibit ties poetry of The Blizzard Voices, written by former United States Poet Laureate Ted Kooser, to the history, science and art of the blizzard of 1888. Students attending this facilitated field trip will spend time in the exhibit and then participate in hands-on activities and weather-related experiments.

Get the inside scoop about your insides. Our giant friend Stuffee will keep children guessing as they learn about the organs that make our bodies work. Why is the small intestine longer then the large intestine? What is it that our lungs really do? Children will have fun with Stuffee as we pull his insides out. They will also listen to each other’s heart beat and make a Happy Health Book to take home.

This interactive field trip will take students on a journey through the components of SPEED: The Science of Going Fast and then put them in the lab where they will experiment with Alka-Seltzer® and balloon rockets.
Students will be divided into three groups with 30 minutes in the exhibit, 30 minutes of hands-on activities and 30 minutes of museum exploration. Groups will rotate through all three activities. The additional 30 minutes will accommodate orientation and rotation time.

During each two hour Science in Action field trip students will have time to explore the museum and then conduct a facilitated science experiment in our Science and Technology Learning Lab. Whether it is floating paper clips in mid-air or planting their own take-home garden, students will explore and create as they discover science. Choose from any of the following subjects for the experiment.
