Worldfest: Braunschweig, Germany
July 2 4:41 PM
Omaha Children's Museum's popular WorldFest: A Sister City Celebration event series is off and running! On Thursday evenings June 21 through August 2 (with the exception of July 5) the museum hosts cultural activities from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

Each evening features a different sister city and guests will be immersed in fun and educational activities unique to the city. WorldFest activities are free with admission to the museum and last Thursday evening the museum celebrated with activities and events from Braunschweig, Germany.

Some traditional German dances were performed by children. The dancers are a part of the German-American Society of Omaha.

Traditional German games were also enjoyed by guests. The jumprope game picture above is known as gummispringen.

It's not Worldfest without some food samples! Guests enjoyed brats, spaetzle noodles, and gummi bears.

WorldFest activities are planned by the local groups that represent each sister city within the OSCA organization. Each one of Omaha's sister cities local groups has planned an evening full of entertainment, demonstrations, arts and crafts activities and food sampling. Children are given a passport upon arrival to the museum and receive a stamp for each sister city night they attend. Kids also receive currency for each city to exchange for food samples and participate in activities. During the six evenings of celebration, the museum will display flags and banners of Omaha's sister cities along with a world map to identify locations and clocks to demonstrate the time in each city.

The WorldFest schedule of cities is as follows:

Thursday, June 28, Braunschweig, Germany
Thursday, July 12, Naas, Ireland
Thursday, July 19, Yantai, China
Thursday, July 26, Siauliai, Lithuania

We hope you join us next week as we celebrate Naas, Ireland!
