In August 2016, Omaha Children's Museum kicked off a three-year partnership with the Nebraska State Fair. The Omaha World-Herald
called it a "commendable partnership."
What's our partnership?
Through 2018, Omaha Children's Museum will have a large exhibit at the Nebraska State Fair. Our 2016 state fair exhibit, Dinos: The Big Dig, featured animatronic dinosaurs and woolly mammoth, a mining sluice, a pit to dig for pretend fossils, and a glitter tattoo station.
The Grand Island Independent reported that in the space, children could "channel their inner paleontologist" as they pretended to dig for fossils and even adults got into the fun by panning for gemstones and fossils in the mining sluice. You can read the full story in the Independent here
Our mission as a children's museum is to engage the imagination and create an excitement for learning. A mobile exhibit like Dinos: The Big Dig brings the energy from the museum out into the community in a way that helps kids learn best: Hands-on play.
In an Omaha World-Herald story about the state fair
, one mom said of our exhibit: "'It’s awesome,' said Andrea Skiles, who had three other children digging around in the pit. 'My kids can touch things. I don’t have to tell them, ‘Don’t touch that.’'"
We look forward to returning to the Nebraska State Fair next year with more fun opportunities for children to learn through play.
