Leader Reader: Officer Nelson
February 13 12:41 PM
This week OCM welcomed Officer Jennifer Nelson from the Omaha Police Department for our first Leader Reader segment! Officer Nelson read a story about her profession titled, Officer Buckle & Gloria by Peggy Rathmann, to the museum’s youngest guests. The book is about a police officer and police dog that visit schools to teach children about safety. Numerous safety tips are mentioned in the book until the final tip – Safety Tip 101: Always stick with your buddy. One child in attendance shouted, “that’s the bestest safety tip ever!”

Officer Nelson has served on the Omaha police force for 16 years. As a young girl, Officer Nelson always dreamed of working in law enforcement. Helping others and making sure people are safe is her favorite part of her job. Not only is Officer Nelson a police officer, but she is also a mommy of three young children. She and her kids love to visit the children’s museum together. Their favorite place in the museum is the ball room (Super Gravitron) and they always love checking out the upstairs traveling exhibits.

If you ever have an emergency and need to reach Officer Nelson or a police offer, remember to dial 9-1-1.

Leader Reader is a new program at OCM that invites local leaders into the museum to read stories about their profession to the museum’s youngest guests. These experiences are inspiring young children, one story at a time!

Join us for our next Leader Reader on Wednesday, March 4 at 11:45 a.m. to listen to Megan Hunt from Hello Holiday about fashion design. One lucky child in attendance will win a book signed by our Leader Reader.
